On August 13, 2020, Telmate was alerted that, due to a vendor’s actions, a subset of Telmate’s customers’ personal information and test data was inadvertently accessible through an unsecured server for a short period of time. This was an isolated event and does not affect our ongoing services. Ensuring the security and privacy of our customers’ personal information is very important to us.

Upon being alerted of this incident, we secured the server on the same day. We have engaged three leading, independent cybersecurity firms to conduct a thorough investigation. We reported the incident to the U.S. Secret Service and the FBI, and to date, we have not received any reports of identity theft. We recommend that consumers be vigilant in reviewing their account statements and credit reports and that they immediately report any unauthorized activity to their financial institutions.

We also recommend that consumers monitor their personal information and visit the Federal Trade Commission’s website, www.ftc.gov/idtheft, to obtain information about steps they can take to better protect against identity theft as well as information about fraud alerts and security freezes.

We are in the process of directly notifying individuals who may have had personal information impacted by this incident, and we are offering them free credit monitoring through Equifax. While the personal information varied by person, in most cases, it included name, address, driver’s license number, and messages. In some limited circumstances, personal information may have included an individual’s Social Security number or other personal information.

Please note that the impacted data did not include any actual phone or video call content.

Please know that protecting your personal information is something that we take very seriously, and we value your trust in doing business with us. Following this incident, we took steps to enhance our cybersecurity and vendor practices, and we continue to monitor and implement other security improvements.

We apologize for both this unfortunate incident and any inconvenience it may cause you. If you have any questions, please call the Telmate call center at 1-877-640-2624 for matters related to your account with Telmate.
