Connecting with Incarcerated Individuals at Kansas Department of Corrections

Kansas Department of Corrections (KDOC) offers communication services provided through GettingOut by GTL. On this page, you’ll find all the information you need to communicate with your incarcerated friend or loved one and help them access tablet services.

Getting Started

To start accessing GettingOut services, you must first complete the following steps:

1. Create an account: When you create your GettingOut account, you’ll be asked some questions to verify your identity. Accounts can be created either online or through the free GettingOut mobile app for Android and iOS.
2. Add a contact: After your account has been established, sign back in, search for your friend / loved one to add them as a contact.
3. Add Funding: In order for you to send messages to your incarcerated friend / loved one you must have sufficient funds in your Friends & Family Account. For them to communicate back and access the paid tablet content, they must also have funds in their GTL Tablet Account.

What Does it Cost?

Your connection to your incarcerated loved one is at your fingertips. Adding funds to your Friends & Family Account gives you the ability to send electronic messages, photos, and video attachments.

Friends and Family Pricing

• Electronic Message: $0.25 per message
• Electronic Photo: $0.25 per photo
• Electronic Card: $0.25 per card
• 30-Second Video Attachment: $1.75 per video

The connection doesn’t have to be one-sided. When you add funds to a KDOC resident’s GTL Tablet Account, you give him/her the ability to send you messages back and print messages and photos for keepsake. Those funds can also help make their day a little more  enjoyable with access to entertainment content.

Resident Pricing

• Electronic Message: $0.25 per message
• Electronic Card: $0.25 per card
• Print Email: $0.35 per printed page
• Print Attachment/Photo: $1.00 per printed page
• Entertainment Content: $0.04/minute (standard content) and $0.06/minute (premium content)
