ViaPath Photo and Video Review Guidelines/SOP
Effective date: March 25, 2024
General Guidelines
- Photo and video review by ViaPath should be conducted according to these guidelines.
- Photos and videos that do not follow these guidelines should be denied by the reviewer and should not be transmitted to the incarcerated person.
- Questions about these guidelines should be directed to the appropriate ViaPath management staff.
Offender Profile Photo/Video Guidelines
Required
- Neutral background.
- Complete uniform, including both top and bottom, or standard issue T-shirt where applicable.
Not Allowed
- Gang signs, signals, or gestures.
- Sexual content, poses, or gestures.
- Head coverings, unless religious in nature.
- Multiple offenders or multiple people in the photo or video.
- Tattoos as the focus of the image.
- Violence or depictions of violence.
- Weapons.
- Currency from the United States or any other country.
- Drugs or narcotics.
Outbound Offender Gallery Photo Guidelines
These guidelines should only be applied if ViaPath is the approver.
If ViaPath is not the approver, facility standards and guidelines apply.
Allowed
- Clear head shot.
- Neutral background.
- One person in the photo.
- Uniform top or standard issue T-shirt and uniform bottom.
Not Allowed
- Gang signs, signals, or gestures.
- Poses or gestures of any kind.
- Sexual content, nudity, or lewd behavior.
- Tattoos as the focus of the image.
- Images or videos containing only text, words, or drawings.
- Topless photos or videos.
- Weapons.
- Currency from the United States or any other country.
- Drugs or narcotics.
Friend and Family Profile Photo Guidelines
These guidelines should only be applied if ViaPath is the approver.
If ViaPath is not the approver, facility standards and guidelines apply.
Allowed
- Profile photo of the live person. (If you see a celebrity picture, deny it.)
- One person in the photo.
- Clear head shot.
Not Allowed
- Obstructed view of the face. (Face must clearly visible. No large and/or dark glasses, scarves, hoodies, or hats.)
- ID, driver’s license, or passport images for gallery use. (While these items cannot be used in a gallery they can be used as a PROFILE photo.)
- Photos or videos of children, unless part of a family photo with at least one adult. (Photos/Videos containing a child/children must show the child/children and adults fully dressed wearing both a top and bottom.)
- Filtered pictures (i.e., Snapchat filters, not allowed if the face is altered) o (Example: hearts around head okay, dog nose- not okay)
- Snapshots of social media (Facebook/Twitters/Instagram/TikTok, etc.)
- Hand gestures/signs/signals of any kind
- No drug or narcotics regardless of legal status
- Photos/Videos of or with weapons (Guns, knives, etc.)
- Partial or full nudity. (All individuals appearing in the photo/video must be fully dressed wearing both a top and bottom covering all body parts, regardless of age and gender).
- Swimsuit Photos/Videos (unless entire body of all persons appearing in the photo/video are covered)
- Photos/Videos of someone in the image or background holding a sign with inappropriate text or words
Inbound Friends and Family Gallery Photo/Video Guidelines
These guidelines should only be applied for review if ViaPath is the approver.
If ViaPath is not the approver, facility standards and guidelines apply.
Not Allowed
- ID, driver’s license, or passport images.
- Partial/Full nudity (All individuals appearing in the photo/video must be fully dressed wearing both a top and bottom covering all body parts, regardless of age and gender).
- Photo/video of a child or children; unless it is a family photo and contains at least one (1) adult (Photos/Videos containing a child/children must show the child/children and adults fully dressed wearing both a top and bottom.)
- Display of gang signs or hand gestures/signs/signals of any kind.
- No drugs or narcotics regardless of legal status
- Photos/Videos of or with weapons (Guns, knives, etc.)
- Swimsuit Photos/Videos (unless entire body of all persons appearing in the photo/video are covered)
- Third party pictures (posters, love letters, etc. can be used to send coded messages and must be rejected
- Collage pictures (no multiple pictures combined)
- Photos/Videos of someone in the image or background holding a sign with inappropriate text or words
- Screenshots of a video visitation with the offender
- Photos/Videos of/with currency of the US or any other country
